The Mansion dominating the spacious and sunny Caseo Estate
was built in the 16th century. At that time, all castles
and all mansions located in the High Oltrepò Pavese
district had to cover many functions for family and social
life, given their isolation. THey were the residences for
noble people and the farmers' abode, places for meeting
and trade, warehousing, courts and jails. Indeed stil l
today, underground in the Caseo Mansion it is possible to
visit the remains of those former ancient jails (SEGRETE
in Italian), that even after hundreds of years keep on arousing
feelings of intrigue and uneasiness. Some years ago, in
one of these "SEGRETE", old bottles of Rhein Riesling
wine were found, being made from the grapes of the vineyard
located just in front of the Mansion. For this reason the
elegant and aromatic Caseo Rhein Riesling was named "Le
Segrete".

| THE VINEYARDS:
|
it is located
in the sunniest part of Caseo Estate in Canevino commune,
on a hill declining from 450 down to 350 metres in
elevation. It is trained with the cordon system. THe
soil is calcareous, approximately 30 cm deep, based
on a marl (clay) layer. It has an optimal exposure
to the sun with a temperature range of 15-17 degrees
day/night.

| THE FERMENTATION:

the overripe
grapes are harvested manually in the third week of
September, pressed and destemmed. The juice is left
in contact with the skins for one night. After the
racking, it is fermented in stainless steel vats at
a controlled temperature of 17 degrees.

| THE MATURATION:
|
12 mesi
in stainless vats and 12 months in bottle before its
selling.

| THE WINE:
|
on the eye
it has a straw-yellow colour with golden tinges. On
the nose the scent of flowers and ripe fruits (such
as vineyard peach and apple) are predominant. On the
palate it is full, long lasting, soft and silky, with
mineral notes.
